Sketching to Relieve Stress

Art therapy uses different forms of art as a way of communicating. For Dung Nguyen, a junior at Debakey High School for Health Professions, sketching is a way of relieving his stress. Going to a very demanding high school, the abundant amount of schoolwork and homework is what induces his stress. “Around test days my stress level skyrockets. So whenever I feel like this, I get a blank sheet of paper and I just draw whatever comes to mind,” said Nguyen. For students like him, sketching random pictures is a way to convey his emotions and channel his stress. Would you prefer sketching or another form of art when it comes to stress relieving?
I definitely prefer anything music-related!
ReplyDeleteThe soothing effect of music is pretty well-established. The lyrics and tunes link to our emotions, which can be an extremely effective stress management tool.
When you say music-related, do you mean actually playing an instrument, singing, or listening to music?
DeleteI would prefer painting by hand as a stress reliever.
ReplyDeletePersonally, for myself, taking the time to sit down and paint a picture requires 100% concentration on every stroke you make. In doing so, I forget about everything else and just focus on the painting I'm working on.

I prefer doodling
ReplyDeleteWhenever I'm stressed I'll just begin to doodle random things on the corners of notes or homework. I find that after a while I feel better and my mind is clearer.
