Art Therapy

Have you ever considered using art as a solution to your stress? Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the different forms of art as a way of communication. If you have a difficult time trying to express yourself through words, then art therapy is the perfect resolution. We all know that stress is a common problem for teenagers to experience in their day to day life. Although encountering stress is not an unusual thing, experiencing too much stress for an adolescent may be damaging to the health. Exposing a problem through art can be done by making visual artworks containing symbols and images that convey the meaning behind the stress.

  2. I have heard before of using as art as a form of therapy or solution to stress. Though I personally have never tried it, I would be open to using art to help with stress. I think that incorporating art as a form of therapy and stress-reduction would be extremely helpful and calming.

    2. That's good because I am not good with art. I often doodle on my paper when I'm bored. But when I'm in art class, I find painting very relaxing.

  4. I use art to relieve my stress all the time. I go to a very demanding high school, and around test days my stress level skyrockets. So whenever I feel like this, I get a blank sheet of paper and I just draw whatever comes to mind. And pretty soon I forget all about my stress and it calms me down. That's just my experience. But art can absolutely be a form of therapy. A sheet of paper, a blank canvas, a lump of clay. Any one of those is a potential stress reliever. You can use colors to map out your emotions or mold something that reflects how you're feeling. And sometimes that really helps.

    1. For us teenagers, stress is such a huge problem because of school demands and other problems. Some of us just don't like talking to people about our problems but like to write it in a journal, sing about it, or draw it out. Since you like to draw to relieve your stress, do you mind sharing some of your drawings and your story so other teenagers can see what it's like to experience art therapy?

  5. Yes, when I am stressed out I love to draw something in order to relieve my stress. I particularly love to draw trees and things that make me happy. Art therapy is definitely a great way to manage stress in a positive and relaxing way. Being able to put my feelings in paper is amazing.

  6. I am naturally a person who tries to express myself and relieve stress by using things like art and music. I think that this provides a way for people to relieve their stress and even to better understand the reasons for the stress that they are going through. Also, I find that playing the piano and music composition is a way for me to relieve my stress.

    1. I agree that music does help relieve stress. Music therapy can be easily combined with art therapy because it works in a very similar way to art therapy by revealing the inner feelings. Have you considered using art and music at the same time to relieve stress?

    2. Wow that sounds really cool and fun actually! I haven't, but of course I would never say no to any methods of relieving stress! Of course being a teen can be stressful at times, and I think that this genre of therapy is very interesting. I love both art and music and this seems like a great idea! :)

    3. You can always try listening to music while drawing. Listening to the right music when you're stressed out can really help. Good luck!

  8. I too believe that art is one of the many great forms of stress relief. Many of us have creativity that is buried deep inside under the responsibilities of our everyday life, but simply taking the time to enjoy and occupy ourself with art is a wonderful way to find our enlightenment.

Thank you My-linh for sharing this! I'm sure many of those who struggle under the pressure of school and work would love to try art therapy!

    Keep up the good work!
