Group Therapy #1
Topic: work stress

Drawing by Claudia Vargas.

I chose to do the drawing in ink and pencil because it is the easiest media to achieve my final product. The lines twist around the branches naturally and they bring life and form to the tree. I personally love ink. When I drew this I was stressed out from work and other stuff. I like to draw things about nature when I am bored or stressed out because it helps me feel better and get distracted from the endless amount of work that I have to do daily,” said Vargas.

  1. This is an amazing piece of art. Personally, I prefer ink too. It's so much cleaner than a brush or a pencil.

    1. I feel like she used dark black ink to draw the texture of the trees to symbolize the veins of the heart.

  2. Yes, getting the fine details with paint and other medias can be quite tedious and unefficient.

    1. Wow! I can tell that a lot of time and work was put into this. I love how it can be so easy to forget about things that you are worried about when you focus on drawing, doodling, or any form of art. It can be as simple or complex as you are stressed and have a lot on your mind. Your art here is very interesting because the tree limbs appear to be reaching for something. Are the limps symbolizing something dealing with your stress?

Overall it is a very relaxing piece to look at.

    2. I think the tree growing from the inside of the heart and then making its way out represents something she has been keeping to herself for a while now. Maybe it's something personal that she can't share with us, but through the drawing it seems like she wanted to express it somehow.

    3. Thanks! And about the tree branches, they are there to represent goals we want in life. When I drew this it wasn't necessarily about me. It was more of a general idea that appealed to me when I was stressed out.

  3. I think this looks great! Very good work. I would suggest that she add some shading to the background to give the paper more character, rather than it just being plain. That can be done with light ink smudging or pencil smudging. Other than that, the drawing itself is very fine and outstanding.

    1. Thanks! And your suggestion is great. I should do so when I am not too busy with school. I prefer shading with pencil because it is easier to manage.
